The Chicago White Sox have signed veteran left-hander Martín Pérez to a one-year, $5 million contract, which includes a mutual option for 2026. The announcement follows an agreement made two weeks prior. In a roster move, Chicago designated right-hander Ron Marinaccio for assignment to accommodate Pérez on the 40-man roster. Pérez, 33, brings a wealth of experience, having debuted with the Texas Rangers in 2012, where he was an All-Star in 2022 and played a pivotal role in the team’s 2023 World Series victory. Last season, he pitched for the Pittsburgh Pirates and San Diego Padres, finishing with a 5-6 record and a 4.53 ERA over 26 starts.

Despite a season interrupted by injury, where he missed a month due to a groin strain, Pérez concluded his time with the Padres strongly, recording a 3.46 ERA and three wins in his final ten starts. The White Sox are looking to bounce back from a dismal 2024 season which saw them achieve a record 41-121, the most losses in MLB history.
